I am so pleased to learn that my painting, Waves Coming In,was awarded First Place in the Sedona Art Prize for October, 2016. I had collected a lot of photos of crashing waves at Esquimalt Lagoon, and also had numerous reference shots and sketches of logs and beach. All that remained was to fit the bits and pieces together and add the rowboat pinched from the small beach at Oak Bay Marina. It did take quite a bit of fiddling to get it all working together.
The Bicycle and the Boat has just been given an Award of Excellence at the Oil Painters of America Western Regional Exhibition in Scottsdale Arizona. Such an honour and I am so pleased! The location is a very small bit of beach near my studio where I often see this old rowboat; it has appeared in quite a few of my paintings. The owner of one of the boats frequently lashes his bicycle to a post while he is out in the harbour. I recently wrote a blog entry about all my blue rowboat pics - do check it out.

“Even after all these years as a professional artist, the greatest buzz of all comes from knowing that someone likes something I made enough to hang it in his or her home and look at it every day. That truly makes it all worthwhile!”
I am very excited: Twelve Small Boats has just won another award - First Place Overall in Plein Air Magazine's Salon for Aug/Sept 2016.
